DVD 2009, Defence Equipment & Support's (DE&S) key stakeholder event, will showcase the new 'go anywhere' Husky protected support vehicle, which is set to improve the protection of British troops on the front line. Husky will be one of a breed of new vehicles that will be displayed during the two-day DVD event, which will take place on 24/25 June, at Millbrook, Bedfordshire.
Two hundred new Huskys will be supplied to UK Forces, under a contract worth almost £120 million between the MoD and US company Navistar Defense. The new support vehicle has been designed for a range of front line missions, including transporting food, water and ammunition, as well as acting as a command vehicle at headquarters. Some vehicles will also be fitted out as protected ambulances.
The contract sees British firm Dytecna, based in Malvern, Worcestershire, receive the Huskys directly from the American firm Navistar Defense. Dytecna will carry out specified vehicle modifications and install various electronic

and communication systems to ensure that Husky meets the British Army's requirements, before delivery is made to the UK's operational troops.The Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, Quentin Davies, said: "Getting the right vehicles and equipment to our Armed Forces has always been an absolute priority. I am sure that Navistar will bring energy and commitment into delivering these new vehicles to our troops in good time."I am also pleased that British industry is playing a full part in this exciting project and that a British company, Dytecna, will be involved in delivering high-quality equipment for our Armed Forces." Husky has been designed to provide commanders with a medium armoured support vehicle in lower threat areas and where heavy vehicles, such as Mastiffs, cannot be used.Lt Col Nick Wills, Tactical Support Vehicle Programme Manager in Defence Equipment and Support's Protected Mobility Team, said: “DVD has always been the platform we have chosen to showcase our latest vehicles, because of its unique mix of key stakeholder visitors.
